Feteasca Neagra
Feteasca Neagra is a dark-skinned grape variety native to Eastern Europe, specifically the Republic of Moldova and Romania. It is known for its spicy, smoky fruit characters and good tannin structure and is considered to make some of the top red Romanian wines. It is resistant to both cold temperatures and drought conditions. Feteasca Neagra is usually produced as a varietal wine, but can also be blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. It can be found in dry, semi-dry or sweet styles and is characterized by its deep ruby-red color, blackberry flavors and potential vanilla notes from oak aging. DNA profiling suggests that Feteasca Neagra is not a mutation of the white Feteasca Alba variety, but an independent grape variety.
